Hey ya'll! I was just searching my DirecTV guide and saw something possibly worth mentioning. I *think* this will be a new episode, but I've never seen the show to know for sure... Meat is listed as appearing on the PBS channel's TAVIS SMILEY show, Tuesday March 20 @ 11:00 PM.

Thanks for the info. I've never heard of Tavis Smiley. What sort of show is it? I've never seen this show either, so I had to look it up... According to PBS, "TAVIS SMILEY is a unique hybrid of news, issues and entertainment, featuring interviews with politicians, entertainers, athletes, authors and other newsmakers. Tavis Smiley was recently named to TIME‘s list of 100 “Most Influential People in the World.” TAVIS SMILEY is produced by The Smiley Group, Inc./TS Media, Inc. Major funding is provided by Walmart. The 30-minute national late-night talk show airs weeknights on PBS." www.pbs.org/wnet/tavissmiley/

We get this show here at 4:00 pm. I'll be watching.
Today, they had on Sean Penn. He lets his guests talk instead of interrupting all the time.

It's a great interview with an interviewer not trying to hurry his guest along a predetermined path. Meat comes across as he is .. intelligent, thoughtful, caring .. very good.
Noticed he picked up on that stupid accusation by someone on the UKF that he was blaming the unemployed and targeting them when he said in an interview here that ONE of the reasons he thinks the world is going to hell in a handbasket is the gimme culture, where people are looking for handouts, ie for everything to be easy, be handed to them on a plate rather than putting effort into improving themselves and working to achieve what they want.
Anyone imo with a modicum of intelligence who didn't apply all of theirs to finding faults in him would have known he was not targeting the unemployed., any more than I would be when I express similar concerns. We have a welfare state which though it may be abused by a few, is largely there to help those who need help, and I think it's a good system; it's an insurance scheme which people are entitled to use when they need. To find yourself needing to use it during this recession is horrid for most people, who deserve our compasson. But I agree with Meat, there are many who today expect everything to handed to them easily .. not a job .. but so many things .. consumer goods they feel they have a right to have, kids who see "being famous" as their ambition. And those that don't get this will turn their anger on those who have managed to achieve something, and on individuals and groups just to vent their own bad feelings. That imo was what Meat meant .. and that I agree with

I missed that particular nugget of joy from UKFC, Caryl, but I'd be interested to know how 'Our Love & Our Souls' would play into their 'targeting the unemployed' theory (were it not so asinine to begin with).

Yes .. interested to know how the hell it could be taken from almost anything Meat says and does really .. and as you say, he has also said that Our Love and Our Souls is what life should be about at its core Caryl
